Amber and Chris bought Maplemont in 2018 and started the slow process of turning the land back into a sheep farm. The once prosperous farm neglected for more than half a century was a jungle of blackberries, sumac, and grape vines.

The sheep have been an incredible tool to reawaken our land. We have spent our time moving sheep and electronet, bale grazing, seeding, and bush hogging. We also graze the solar array on our property owned by Sun Common, because why not make food and solar energy at the same time!

When we aren’t farming…Chris runs Doolan Fence. Amber works for UVM Extension and White River Conservation District as a Grazing Specialist. The kids: Stella, Ruby, Tate, and Iris, help out here and there with lambing and chasing sheep around. They mostly enjoy other things on the farm like swimming in the river with Hazel the Dog, and building fires in the backyard. We are lucky to live in the Northeast Kingdom where there is skiing, fishing, and hiking at our fingertips.
